My Why...
I have become the provider I needed in my own life.
As an adolescent, I experienced anxiety and was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. During my journey I developed a very strong relationship with the Lord. I was healed completely of the eating disorder and the accompanying anxiety. My providers called it a miracle, and they were not wrong. In my undergraduate college years, I became sick and was diagnosed with Lyme Disease that would last over 20 years.
Frustrated and wanting to understand, first, why I had struggled with anxiety and an eating disorder, and second, why my body was sick, I started down what would be a long, but fruitful path of discovery.
I got a Masters of Child Studies where I did research with Vanderbilt's Pediatric Eating Disorder Treatment Center and was trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for adolescents who suffered with chronic anxiety. I then went on to get trained as a Nurse Practitioner and did my clinical rotations with a Functional Medicine Doctor who trained me to look at patients holistically and get to the root cause of why they were sick. I continued to practice in Functional Medicine for eight years, but, I was frustrated because though my body was overall much healthier, I was not totally healed.
I went on to get training in Hospice and Palliative Care and moved into that field so I could offer hope to those for whom the healing didn't come.
During this time, I went on to get a PhD in Bio-Behavioral Medicine because I wanted to be able to do my own research and be able to understand and manage the complex psychosocial aspects of illness by alleviating suffering, promoting health, improving quality of life, and optimizing medical care. In addition, as someone who has dealt with the hopelessness of chronic illness, I got trained as a Pastoral Counselor and a Christian Neuroemotional Practitioner because I wanted more tools in my toolbox for myself, but also to be able to help others.I found that the missing piece to my healing puzzle was emotional and inner healing.
Ultimately, God has healed me and trained me, and I am excited to be able to encourage, empower and equip my clients as they walk their healing journeys. My mission is to set captives free through the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit as I help clients achieve emotional, physical and spiritual wellness.
